We are recruiting a fixed‑term role, up to 2 years, for someone with experience working in or regulating the energy sectors – including combustion plants, waste incineration and refineries. The UK’s Net Zero strategy is driving a transformation in the energy sectors, which account for 24 % of UK GHG emissions. Your work will help ensure that energy sectors protect people and the environment from emissions, and support the transition to new sustainable sources of power.
Responsibilities
 * Provide expert support and technical leadership through advice, guidance, and training.
 * Develop strategy for the sectors and produce the tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
 * Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
 * Work with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, internal operations teams, trade associations and other key industry players.
 * Respond to incidents during a designated incident role and make yourself available to provide business continuity support.
Team
The Energy & COMAH team is part of the Energy and Manufacturing Industries Regulation of Environment & Business (E&B) Directorate. Our technical experts lead on the definition of standards for the energy sectors, providing strategic direction, tools to support regulation, guidance and training, and environmental best practice.
Experience & Skills Required
 * Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, encouraging consideration of diversity issues in work.
 * Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience of working within or regulating relevant processes, including control measures for emissions to air.
 * Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
 * Cooperatively work as part of a team to achieve common goals.
