Offer description

Job Overview Consultant Psychiatrist in General Adult Acute Care Inpatient Psychiatry.

Two adult wards are in the Ablett Unit: a 10‑bed Dinas Female ward, a 10‑bed Dinas Male ward, and an S136 suite. The Home Treatment Team (HTT) is based in the Ablett Unit. Additional wards include an 8‑bed male locked rehabilitation Cynnydd and a 10‑bed older‑persons’ functional Tegid ward.

The adult acute care service covers the 20‑bed ward and the HTT, which can admit approximately 25 patients at a time. Crises Resolution Services are delivered within local community services and are not part of this acute care model. The Acute Care teams work with CMHTs to ensure timely communication and care planning. The post holder will provide patient‑centred recovery‑based care through a supervisory and consultancy role, and serve as Responsible Clinician for about half of the adult acute care service (10 beds) and half of the HTT, alongside the other Substantive Approved Clinician.

Main Duties The post holder will be the treating consultant alongside the other Approved Clinician for inpatients admitted to Dinas Male and Female wards and those accepted for the Home Treatment Team. Admissions come from the community via CMHT or general hospitals via Psychiatric Liaison Service. Medical oversight of admissions occurs with a handover of consultant responsibility at admission and discharge. The post holder and community colleagues work closely to facilitate continuity of care and discharge planning, and the patient remains in the post holder’s care.

The post holder will be the responsible clinician for patients admitted under the Mental Health Act, provide medical leadership to the multidisciplinary team, work closely with the sector consultant, CMHT and local authorities to ensure continuity of care and robust discharge planning, and supervise junior doctors attached to the post.
