Full job description:
UKBiogasare operators of anaerobic digestion/biogas plants which produce green electricity and gas using organic materials such as crops, manures and food wastes. We are looking for a Site Operator/Manager(WAMITAB L4 preferred)who will be based at our Biogest Combined Heat and Power (CHP) site near Norfolk. This role will likely suit an experienced AD operator looking to make their next step towards plant management. You must be allowed to live and work in the UK.
As the AD operator / manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the operations and maintenance of the AD plant. Your role will involve operating the AD plant, routine preventative maintenance and repairs where possible. You will also ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, the Environmental permit and perform daily checks and record keeping. We’re looking for a motivated and proactive individual to join the business.
After completing training, the role involves taking full onsite responsibility for the operation and up-keep of the site. This role involves periods of lone working and the successful candidate will be motivated and driven to work and overcome challenges unsupervised. This is a full-time position which also includes beingon-call on a rotawith call-out and overtime payments on top of salary.
Responsibilities:
·Day to day operation of the plant, managing feedstocks and digestate offtake.
* Liaising with local farmers and contractors about the timings and quantities of deliveries
* Enforce a Health and Safety culture and associated behaviours to promote the Company’s Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality policies.
* Using the SCADA system to monitor and identify operational processes and current status
·Maximise operating efficiencies and margins of AD outputs as well as proposing longer term strategic improvements and growth ideas
·Carry out regular maintenance to reduce operational issues and prompt management of repairs where possible. Liasing with technical support, as required, to minimise down time.
* Develop and maintain effective record-keeping systems, including maintaining accurate logs of plant operations and maintenance activities.
·Reporting, analysing and addressing weekly and monthly KPI’s with line manager and Operations Director
·Maintaining adequate records, samples, biological lab tests regimes as per company standard and be able to produce them as required.
* Develop and maintain strong working relationships with customers, suppliers and contractors, ensuring effective communication and collaboration in the delivery of services.
The following skills and experience are preferred but not essential:
* Previous experience with Anaerobic digestion (WAMITAB - AD Level 4)
* Sound knowledge of the principles of anaerobic digestion, biogas production and end product quality.
·Telehandler driving experience and valid ticket (training provided regardless)
* Strong problem solving and organisational skills with a mechanical aptitude and the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
·Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities with a can-do attitude
* Good knowledge of health, safety and environmental regulations and standards.
·A full UK driving licence is required.
·Forage feedstock clamp management and best practices
·Experience of conducting daily checks and maintenance routines (greasing etc)
·Confident using smartphone and apps
·Confident using a computer and spreadsheets
A typical day at a UKBiogas Site will consist of the following and the Site Operator/Manager will be responsible for ensuring they are carried out to a high standard.
* Ensuring the plant is suitably fed (including use of a telehandler to load the hopper with feedstock)
* Ensuring the feedstock clamps are kept to high standards of cleanliness and ensure clamp losses are minimised by using good working practices.
* Completing daily/weekly checks of the plant and equipment
* Ensuring all preventative and light maintenance is completed and recorded
* Work with our in-house maintenance team to ensure issues and breakdowns are responded to promptly and efficiently
* Reporting and reviewing H&S issues (including participating in the company H&S cross site working group)
* Maintaining, recording and managing consumables, supplies & spares on site.
* Managing intensive periods of plant activities such as crop harvest and digestate spreading campaigns (managing relations with suppliers and service providers)
* Monitoring and record keeping to ensure the site remains compliant with all requirements
* Communicating with the wider UK Operations Team to share knowledge and help with problem solving
