We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Psychologist to join us in the Kent Clinical Neuropsychology Service for Stroke. This post is to work in the Thanet area (Margate & Ramsgate).
The post is a community role that involves a mix of specialist neuropsychological assessment, cognitive rehabilitation interventions and psychological therapy work, supporting people with their emotional adjustment and their stroke recovery. The work is with stroke survivors, their families and carers and is delivered in a multidisciplinary approach with the Community Neurorehabilitation Teams.
The post is based at Gregory House in Canterbury and is co‑located with other colleagues in the service. The trust supports hybrid/flexible models of working and there will be close working with a Principal Clinical Psychologist who will provide supervision.
Within the Kent Clinical Neuropsychology Service there is a strong rehabilitation focus and staff have interests in a wide range of therapeutic models including ACT, CFT, Narrative Therapy and Systemic Family Therapy approaches.
The service has a commitment to ongoing training and professional development and links with the Canterbury Christ Church Clinical Psychology training course.
Responsibilities
* To be responsible for the systematic provision of specialist clinical neuropsychology services to stroke survivors and their families and carers in the Thanet locality.
* To undertake high quality direct (assessment and therapeutic) and indirect (consultative, advisory and evaluative) specialist neuropsychological interventions taking substantial professional responsibility and exercising autonomous judgement in professional practice.
* To ensure the clinical effectiveness of own practice and service delivery by undertaking research and development activities relevant to the service area.
* To work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team with the local Community Neurorehabilitation Team.
* To be regularly responsible for providing training placements for trainee clinical psychologists in clinical neuropsychology.
Person Specification – Experience
* Experience of working as a qualified specialist clinical psychologist for a minimum of one year.
* Experience of conducting standardised neuropsychological assessments.
* Experience of working with people with stroke, acquired brain injuries or other neurological conditions (desirable).
* Experience of working in a neuropsychology setting (desirable).
Person Specification – Training
* Good undergraduate honours degree in Psychology.
* Post‑graduate doctorate level training in clinical psychology accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) or the BPS statement of equivalence.
* Registered with the Health & Care Professions Council as a Practitioner Psychologist.
* Evidence of further CPD/training in stroke, brain injury or neurorehabilitation (desirable).
Person Specification – Knowledge and Skills
* Ability to comprehend and communicate verbally and in writing highly complex and sensitive information in a manner appropriate to a range of settings and audiences, including complex highly emotive situations and those with significantly impaired communication capacities.
* Ability to analyse and manage complex multi‑factorial clinical information from a range of sources integrating it into a formulation utilising a variety of psychological perspectives.
* Ability to organise own workload effectively, prioritising a complex range of tasks and responsibilities to meet agreed deadlines.
* Experience of working with individuals, couples, families and groups.
* Knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to the client group and mental health.
* Knowledge of stroke, acquired brain injury and neurorehabilitation approaches (desirable).
