Contract: Fixed Term/Secondment (until Dec 2026), Full time 35 hours per week
Are you passionate about creating innovative online learning experiences? Join us and help shape the future of digital education!
We are Cambridge University Press & Assessment, a world‑leading academic publisher and assessment organisation and a proud part of the University of Cambridge. We are looking for a Learning Designer to join our learning design team at Cambridge Online Education, to support the design, development and delivery of professional and HE courses. In joining us, you will become part of a dynamic, welcoming, and creative team of online learning professionals.
This position will be offered on a fixed term contract basis for 12 months.
About the Role
You will be working collaboratively with Academics and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to deliver outcomes‑driven, pedagogically robust online courses of the highest quality. You will be expected to work to tight deadlines on multiple projects and with a range of stakeholders. The focus of your work will be the scoping, design, development, delivery and evaluation of a portfolio of course outputs that will deliver best‑in‑class online learning experiences to learners from key demographics, primarily focused on professional audiences and HE institutions.
Additionally, in this role:
* You’ll work alongside subject matter experts, instructors, and various stakeholders to analyse learning needs and craft high‑quality, Cambridge‑standard solutions.
* Your days will involve applying learning theories and best practices, shaping learner‑centred courses that deliver tangible outcomes.
* Building strong relationships with academics and contributors is central, as together you’ll refine and develop course concepts, working closely with the Propositions, Marketing, and Sales teams when needed.
* You’ll co‑create detailed learning maps, aligning outcomes, assessments, and activities to ensure everything fits seamlessly.
* Analysing course evaluations and recommending improvements will be part of your remit, as will supporting course delivery with the operations team—providing clear briefings and hands‑on support to faculty and tutors whenever required.
NOTE: As part of your online application, we request that you submit a sample of your work to help us better understand the type of learning experiences that you have worked on in the past (this is not a request for a full portfolio). If you are shortlisted for an interview, you should be ready to talk through your role in the design of this sample during the interview and the pedagogical underpinning of your design decisions.
About You
As our next Learning Designer, you’ll bring hands‑on experience shaping learning journeys and developing online short courses, backed by a solid understanding of pedagogy and proven impact through your design portfolio. A relevant qualification or thorough knowledge of online learning design, including blended learning approaches and learning needs analysis, is essential. Understanding the importance of accessibility and addressing challenges in the online space are key. Familiarity with VLEs—particularly Canvas, and associated tools—is necessary, as well as knowing how to build appropriate support for online learners.
Collaboration is central to your approach, whether working with subject matter experts, academics, or cross‑functional teams. You recognise the value of teaching expertise in co‑creation, especially alongside high‑profile faculty, and can resolve differences to create enriching, viable learning experiences. Above all, you are adept at managing multiple projects to tight deadlines without compromising standards or professionalism.
