Job Description
We are committed to being an inclusive employer and ensuring equal opportunities for everyone. We welcome flexible working patterns for all our vacancies, including job share.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Environment Agency’s Natural Capital Ecosystem Assessment (NCEA) Programme as the lead for the Data Analysis & Statistics Work Package within the Data, Analysis & Digital Workstream. The Defra-led NCEA programme gathers broad-scale and comprehensive data on ecosystems, including freshwater, estuarine, and coastal water environments, to reveal their benefits for people and the economy—i.e., their natural capital. This evidence will help policy and decision makers appreciate the true value of nature.
You will lead a team of data scientists and statisticians supporting the design, evaluation, and analysis of NCEA monitoring networks to develop statistically robust, nationally representative evidence on ecosystem condition. You will coordinate team efforts and oversee technical delivery to ensure the work package meets its objectives and contributes to the programme’s overall goals.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Setting the overall data analysis and statistical approach for the programme;
2. Developing the work plan for the work package and coordinating its delivery;
3. Supporting the team in developing new analytical approaches, resolving technical issues, managing risks, and ensuring work meets scientific standards;
4. Collaborating with other work package leads and the workstream lead on cross-cutting technical issues;
5. Engaging with stakeholders within and outside the programme on data analysis solutions and statistical methods;
6. Line management duties for the team.
The team sits within the Strategic Evidence Design & Assessment (SEDA) team, part of the Chief Scientist’s Group in the Environment & Business (E&B) Directorate. We are a friendly, supportive group known for delivering key information to inform water environment policies. We operate in a dispersed manner, offering a welcoming and engaging work environment.
Experience/Skills Required

* Proficiency in R/R Studio for data visualization and statistical analysis;
