Lead Auditor

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Auditor to join our Internal Audit and Assurance team. This role is pivotal in delivering high-quality audit and assurance services, with a focus on complex, technical, or sensitive assignments. The successful candidate will play a key role in identifying risks, providing assurance, and driving improvements in governance, risk management, and internal control systems.
Key Responsibilities
* Plan and deliver audit assignments that address key risks, particularly those of a complex or sensitive nature.
* Engage with stakeholders to ensure audit work is aligned with business priorities and risk profiles.
* Support the development and implementation of audit and counter-fraud strategies and plans.
* Provide expert guidance and support to audit team members on complex assignments.
* Communicate findings effectively to senior stakeholders, influencing improvements and ensuring accountability.
* Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to enhance the impact and efficiency of audit services.
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the development of best practices across the audit function.

Technical Requirements
* Professional qualification (or working towards) in internal audit or accountancy (e.g., CMIIA, CCAB).
* In-depth knowledge of internal audit standards and frameworks (e.g., CIPFA Code of Practice, Public Sector Internal Audit Standards).
* Experience in conducting audits within a public sector or similarly complex environment is desirable.
