Pay: £24,790 – £25,183 (FTE) | £89.83 – £94 per day (depending on experience)

Full-time and part-time Learning Support Assistant roles available in secondary schools across Newport. Teaching Personnel is working closely with a number of welcoming secondary schools in Newport to recruit Learning Support Assistants for the 2025/26 academic year. These roles are ideal for people who are passionate about education, want to support students with additional learning needs (ALN), and are looking for a meaningful and hands-on role in the classroom.
What the role involves:
As a Learning Support Assistant, you’ll play a key role in helping students get the most out of their school day. Your responsibilities may include:
Supporting students on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, particularly those with ALN
Helping implement learning strategies and Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
Encouraging engagement and participation in lessons
Assisting with classroom organisation, behaviour support, and general learning activities
Being a positive, consistent presence throughout the school day – in lessons, at breaktimes, and on school trips
You don’t need to have previous classroom experience – what matters most is your ability to connect with young people and offer calm, patient support.
We’d love to hear from you if you have:
5 GCSEs (A–C) including Maths and English (or equivalent)
Any experience working with children or young people – in schools, care, youth services, coaching, mentoring or similar
A positive attitude, good communication skills, and a willingness to learn
An understanding of (or interest in) working with pupils with SEN, ALN, or behavioural needs
