Overview
The Assistant Estates Officer – Building supports the Head of Building and senior team members in managing building projects across Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The role includes conducting condition surveys, overseeing construction activities, managing contracts, and ensuring compliance with CDM regulations, health and safety standards, and Trust policies. The postholder monitors planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and urgent reactive works, ensuring they meet HTM and HBN requirements.
Main Duties
* Assist in managing a variety of building, construction, energy and environmental duties including maintenance, installation, testing, repair and commissioning of services and equipment.
* Manage minor works and capital projects including responsibility for budgets, programmes and coordination.
* Undertake condition surveys to ensure assets are maintained at acceptable standards.
* Participate in the Estates out of hours ‘on‑call’ emergency service.
Person Specification: Essential
* Degree level knowledge acquired through training: specialist knowledge in hospital building/architecture (construction/refurbishment/structural).
* Holder a full UK driving licence.
Person Specification: Desirable
* Degree in a building or architectural subject.
* Building apprenticeship experience.
Qualifications & Education
* Higher National Certificate (HNC/ONC) in building services.
* Relevant hospital building/architecture experience.
* Prepared to undertake degree pathway.
Skills & Abilities
* Use specialised test equipment for electrical, sterilisation medical gases.
* Accurate keyboard and IT skills.
