An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to be appointed as a permanent Band 6 in our elective surgery units on the East Coast. We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal skills who can adapt and work closely with a team.
Successful candidates must have over 2 years of Day Surgery experience, be knowledgeable of BADS and GIRFT requirements and be willing to travel to cover both Scarborough and Bridlington day units.
Duties will be varied and will include admissions, pre and post surgery care with prompt, yet safe discharge in the nurse-led unit. The majority of procedures are planned day cases, however a small number are for overnight admissions as we are dealing with high waiting lists and backlog.
We are looking to employ an enthusiastic and dynamic person to complement our existing team. The elective surgical units support a wide variety of surgical disciplines, including general surgery, urology, ENT, max-fax, chronic pain services, orthopaedic trauma and gynaecology and work closely with the preassessment team, surgical teams, anaesthetic teams, theatres and surgical wards.
The successful candidate will be expected to be oversee the day to day running of the day surgery units, support the East Coast Preassessment nursing team and adapt the daily workload to accommodate acute patients. With our Bridlington base recently achieving Surgical Hub accreditation, the successful candidate will play an important driving force in developing future service.
Main duties of the job
The job holder will play an essential role assisting the Sister/Charge Nurse in teaching the nursing teams throughout the 24 hour period.
As an experienced nurse, the job holder will co-ordinate activities on the ward/department ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times, providing support to qualified and unqualified nurses within the ward/department. You will play a key role in the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
The post holder will work in partnership with the Ward / Department Sister and the team to ensure that high standards of nursing care are provided at all times. This includes ensuring that standards of hospital cleanliness are maintained on their ward/department and are met at all times.
