SUMMARY
Performs engineering work to support sales orders, product improvement projects, technical support, and engineering analysis.
Completes assigned activities under the general direction of the Engineering Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Review all applicable job data, including POs, project plans, and specifications to determine order characteristics and establish engineering objectives.
2. Generate design, general arrangement, and other submittal drawings within estimated hours and timescales.
3. Provide design calculations and documentation support for project work.
4. Prepare and update layouts, detailed drawings, calculations, specifications, and documentation instructions necessary for project success.
5. Work closely with all functions of the business to ensure the most economical, safe, and suitable design is achieved.
6. Implement improvements to the current range of standard equipment and services, and develop ideas for future products.
7. Produce CAD drawings for equipment, civil work layouts, and mechanical design details to specific requirements.
8. Review detailed drawings and bills of materials during and prior to being issued for manufacture.
9. Apply and supervise the application of safety standards to products and services.
10. Maintain, update, and progress standard drawings and data for assigned products as the nominated “Product Engineer”.
11. Provide technical support to Marketing by generating sales assistance, drawings, or calculations.
12. Perform basic engineering analysis.
13. Advise Project Management and Project Engineers on project status while adhering to company and corporate policies.
14. Perform other duties as assigned.
LOCAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Create site layouts and equipment general assemblies (using 3D Inventor).
2. Review and adhere to project specifications and applicable standards.
3. Plan projects to meet submission requirements.
4. Attend project meetings internally and with clients.
5. Perform project engineering and management tasks.
6. Contribute to and maintain the design risk register.
7. Assess civil work requirements for equipment.
8. Perform detailed engineering calculations (including using Mathcad).
9. Design for outsourced manufacturing, installation, maintenance, and decommissioning of equipment.
10. Create detailed parts lists/BOMs with appropriate software.
11. Liaise with suppliers to obtain quotations for equipment and services.
12. Assist in and review technical manuals to ensure bespoke equipment details are captured.
13. Apply knowledge of Hazop, risk matrices, and risk assessments, including CDM requirements.
14. Support site services with build modifications and update drawings accordingly.
15. Check all drawings, documentation, and calculations thoroughly.
16. Work independently, taking responsibility and ownership of workload.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
HNC Level or above in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, with relevant experience in equipment/product design or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret industry-related documents. Proficient in English, both written and verbal, at an advanced level.
INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT, DECISION MAKING & PROBLEM SOLVING
Apply logical or scientific principles to a range of practical problems. Make decisions using multiple variables in standard situations.
OTHER SKILLS
* Computer Skills: Proficiency in Word, Excel, MS Office, AutoCAD, and 3D Inventor.
* Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply advanced mathematical equations to standard situations.
* Travel: Some travel may be required.
* Additional: Ability to interpret specifications, fabrication, erection, and engineering drawings; knowledge of machining, fabrication, and assembly techniques; familiarity with drafting standards for structural and mechanical design.
