Toby Perkins is looking to appoint an experienced, dedicated, and compassionate Community Engagement and Communications Officer to join his constituency team.
This role involves leading on local, non-party campaigns and wider constituency issues; liaising with local community groups, organisations, charities and stakeholders; and assisting the team with social media, external communications and press.
Key Responsibilities
• Build, manage and maintain positive relationships with key local stakeholders.
• Manage and oversee projects and campaigns within the constituency.
• Liaise with charities, community groups, resident associations, local authorities, housing associations and other agencies and charities to assist with two-way communication and campaigns
• Attend constituency meetings and accompany MP on visits
• Oversee the production, printing, and distribution of campaign letters and other publications
• Draft press releases and social media content to support local campaigns
• Assist with producing online graphics and video content
• Follow up on social media queries and comments
• Identify emerging local issues to create campaign and media strategies
• Horizon-scanning, anticipate what issues arise that the MP needs to be aware of and campaign on
• Ensure records are kept and information managed confidentially in line with the data protection legislation.
• There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally.
Person Specification
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and confidence interacting with a wide range of people.
• Good political knowledge and experience of campaigning
• Experience of a public-facing role, or working directly with the public.
• Strong organisational and time management abilities.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and use initiative, with good attention to detail.
• Sympathy with the aims and values of the Labour Party
Hours: FT, 37.5 hrs per week
Duration: Permanent. Subject to 6-month probationary period.
