Finance Business Partner - Retail

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Retail finance team in Boots Opticians, reporting into the Head of Finance - Commercial & Operations. The role partners the Retail and Operations teams and is crucial for ensuring the Opticians business makes robust, value-driven decisions.

Shape and influence decision-making through performance insight and challenge, alongside ownership and cost management for the Retail and Operations functions.


Key responsibilities

1. Develop and maintain strong relationships with the Retail and Operations teams and the wider Boots Opticians finance team.
2. Hold the Retail and Operations teams accountable for delivering in-year financial commitments, budgets, and 3-year plans while maintaining strong partnerships.
3. Report and analyze wide-ranging business initiatives and store/regional metrics, providing insights on trends and drivers impacting performance at both macro and store levels to influence decision-making.
4. Collaborate with FP&A and Financial Control teams to ensure rigorous financial planning and reporting processes (monthly performance, forecast, budget, 3-year plan) for the Retail and Operations functions, including store-level budgets.
5. Manage the Retail and Operations cost base robustly to facilitate informed decision-making, ensuring spend remains on track and focused on areas of greatest return, and identify opportunities for cost savings.
6. Explain key finance concepts to non-finance colleagues, upskilling the Retail and Operations teams in financial acumen.
7. Line management and development of two direct reports.


What you'll need to have

* Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA or equivalent) with post-qualification experience, ideally including business partnering.
* Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
* Commercial experience, able to identify practical solutions and improve performance.
* High energy and resilience, with the ability to manage competing priorities and perform effectively under pressure.


Desirable skills or experience

* Line management experience.
