Join our team as a Payroll Officer and make a difference!
You will be joining the People Services team – a small, values‑driven group that delivers professional services to our 380 staff and almost 1,000 volunteers. The role will also work closely with the Finance team and expects staff to work flexibly from home or the hospice while checking in each morning for support and collaboration.
Key responsibilities
* Deliver accurate and timely monthly payroll for all staff, ensuring compliance with legislation, HMRC and regulatory reporting.
* Administer and process our three pension schemes.
* Calculate and process statutory pay entitlements, additional payments and benefits as set out in hospice policy.
* Maintain and improve our payroll system (Cascade) and associated processes.
* Support staff and managers with payroll queries, audits, reporting and process improvements.
What you’ll bring
* Strong previous experience in payroll.
* A keen eye for detail and accuracy.
* Good time‑management skills, flexibility and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
* Open to change and looking for ways to improve payroll processes.
* Up‑to‑date knowledge of payroll legislation and changes that affect staff pay. Demonstrates behaviours that support Hospice values.

Ashgate Hospice, based in North Derbyshire, provides free palliative and end‑of‑life care for adults with life‑limiting or incurable illnesses. Last year we cared for over 2,400 people and aim to support patients and their families through symptom management, information, and emotional support, including bereavement services.
