At Severn Trent, we are embarking on a £415m project to replace 870 miles of old water pipes across the Midlands. This is the biggest investment in water infrastructure in the region in a decade and will improve water quality, reduce leaks and make water supply more reliable for millions of people. The new pipes installed will last up to 100 years. We are creating new jobs across the region with roles based in Birmingham, Nottingham or anywhere in between. We are looking for a Network Construction Lead Operative to join our team and be responsible for managing significant, large scale construction activity across multiple sites, ensuring our customers safely receive a constant supply of good quality drinking water.
You’ll be the senior member of the Construction team on site, coordinating the activities of colleagues and providing support and guidance as required. You’ll also be responsible for risk assessment and delivering DMA Main Renewal schemes in accordance with the relevant SSOW and SOPs. You’ll ensure that all DMA renewal schemes are delivered to Severn Trent high quality standards while adhering to company ODI targets. The role will oversee and support contractors and other external stakeholders on site. This role requires a 42-hour work week, Monday to Friday, starting at 7:30 AM and ending at 4:30 PM, with a half-hour early finish at 4:00 PM on Fridays.

Responsibilities
* Ensure CDM compliance on site, responsible for the health, safety and well-being of team members, site visitors, contractors and members of the public, in accordance with CDM regulations.
* Communicate with the on-site team to ensure the quality, quantity, and understanding of tasks are carried out safely and effectively; liaise with external stakeholders such as utility providers, asset owners, local authorities, and customers.
* Identify and mitigate potential hazards; document findings in a daily dynamic risk assessment and ensure full compliance with SOPs for all activities.
* Actively manage impacts on the wider organisation, customers and external partners (e.g., traffic management, disruption, supply interruptions) and deliver construction work to a planned budget.
What You’ll Bring To The Role
* Experience of working on mains renewal or mains laying schemes and safe digging; able to coordinate activity and support a team while liaising with internal and external stakeholders in a construction environment.
* Able to demonstrate awareness and practical experience of CDM Regulations, identify risks and opportunities; trained in Utility Avoidance and Location, Thrust Boring, Safe Digging and 360 Excavator <10T; completed all NRSWA modules.
* Knowledge and understanding of mains renewal processes, options and risks; ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment, make prompt clear decisions, and coordinate activities with a team.
* Full UK manual driving license (travel is required).
