Offer description

The successful candidate will be HCPC registered or making good progress towards it. The successful candidate will have an interest in Haematology and / or Blood Transfusion; they will rotate through all sections, covering the full range of Haematology and Blood Transfusion. Equipment in Haematology is Sysmex equipment across all 4 sites. Blood Transfusion has networked Blood-Tx and integrated Remote Release to a greater extent than most sites in the UK. The Oxford University Hospital Haematology has a more diverse range of testing being carried out than many other Hospitals with a variety of specialist workload being referred in, and training in appropriate specialist sections may be given, over time, as required. A flexible approach to working hours is required; staff will be expected to work on all sites as required. The Haematology Department is a 24/7/365 operation and staff will be expected to work a variety of hours to meet the needs of the service. The successful candidate(s) will work as part of a busy multidisciplinary team and have a positive professional approach to patient care. Candidates without UK HCPC registration would only be considered if inadequate number of registered candidates.

We are looking to recruit to Band 5 posts to support the broad workload across the Department. We are looking for candidates who already have experience with the equipment in use in OUH.


Qualifications and experience

* HCPC Registration
* Biomedical Science B.Sc. or equivalent knowledge as assessed by the HCPC
* IBMS postgraduate Diploma in Haematology and / or Transfusion or equivalent knowledge
* Successful competency assessment for lone worker as part of "Shift" and / or On call.
* Proven experience in laboratory environment.
* Previous experience with equipment in use at OUH.
* Ability to mentor and impart knowledge to Junior colleagues.
* Ability to prioritise competing workload.
* Basic Keyboard Skills
* Knowledge of IT architecture in the running of complex analytical equipment and Laboratory Information Systems
* Practical analytical skills associated with diagnostic lab work
* Timely accurate working.
* Methodical and well organised.
* Precise and Numerate
* Computer literate
* Good hand eye co-ordination, Reliable and trustworthy
* Quick to learn and comprehend.
* Able to work as a team member.
* Self-motivation.
* Able to perform light physical work.
* Capable of intense periods of concentration.
* Ability to show flexibility by performing multiple tasks.
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Openness.
* Prepared to work with biological materials and a variety of sample types.
* You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
* Good communication and presentation skills.


Desirable criteria

* Membership of IBMS or BBTS CPD scheme.
* Knowledge of all basic techniques within Haematology and Transfusion.
* Previous experience in NHS Diagnostic laboratory.
* Quick to learn and comprehend.
* Able to perform light physical work.
* Capable of intense periods of concentration.
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Self-motivation.
* Openness.
* Ability to learn from experience.
* Prepared to work with biological materials and a variety of sample types.
* Good hand eye co-ordination, reliable and trustworthy.
