AECOM Birmingham, United Kingdom. Join for the Senior Commercial Manager B&P role within the Buildings & Places sector. Hybrid working from key UK&I offices with travel to client sites and regional offices as needed.
As Senior Commercial Manager you will undertake the role of Commercial Lead for a Sector or Sub-Sector within our Buildings and Places business. You will drive commercial performance, planning, and contractual excellence across a diverse portfolio of projects, lead commercial operations, manage risk, and provide commercial expertise to Sector leadership to ensure alignment with business objectives and sustainable growth. The function links operational requirements with key corporate functions such as finance, legal and risk.
This role combines strategic oversight with hands-on commercial management, offering the opportunity to influence outcomes across sectors such as infrastructure, defence, commercial, and social infrastructure.
Hybrid working is available with relatively frequent travel to client sites and AECOM regional offices as needed.
Here’s what you’ll do:
Responsibilities
* Leadership & Planning
o Develop and implement commercial strategies in bids aligned with Sector/ Sub-Sector goals and growth plans
o Advise Sector leadership on market risks, opportunities, pricing and commercial trends/benchmarking to support bids
o Support the Head of Commercial to drive innovation across the commercial element of the operation
o Collaborate with the Buildings and Places commercial team to apply a consistent approach across Sectors and report to the Head of Commercial
* Contract & Risk Management
o Oversee negotiation and implementation of prime and subcontracts, NDAs, MOUs, teaming agreements, and JV arrangements with the legal team
o Manage changes with focus on commercial implications; manage commercial risk and opportunity generally
o Embed robust risk management procedures across bid and delivery phases
o Resolve contractual disputes and claims with timely and effective resolution
o Lead and implement governance processes within the Sector and interface with legal, tax, ORM, treasury and other functions
* Commercial Oversight
o Oversee and support financial project budgeting with project delivery leads aligned to commercial goals
o Provide effective project performance reporting across the portfolio with finance support
o Work with project leads to identify and assess changes
o Monitor KPIs and cash flow to meet commercial targets
o Deliver monthly and quarterly reports to Sector stakeholders
* Team Leadership & Development
o Report to the Head of Commercial and support the growth of the commercial team, fostering high performance
o Coach and mentor staff on commercial best practices and contract management
o Promote diversity, succession planning, and continuous professional development
* Stakeholder Engagement
o Build and maintain strategic commercial relationships with clients, sub-consultants, and internal stakeholders
o Represent the business in commercial negotiations and industry forums
o Attend client meetings as required
o Influence bid/delivery strategy and support work-winning activities

Qualifications
Here’s what we’re looking for:
* Degree or equivalent in Business, Engineering, Law or related discipline
* Significant experience in commercial management across infrastructure, defence, social infrastructure or commercial sectors
* Proven track record in leadership or a key role with commercial and operational responsibilities
* Strong understanding of procurement routes, contracting models, and professional services frameworks
* Strong understanding of benchmarking, pricing and delivery models across relevant sectors
* Experience in negotiation and dispute resolution
* Effective communicator with strong interpersonal abilities and persuasiveness
* Skilled in producing fee proposals, financial analysis, commercial reporting, and risk mitigation
