Job Description

We’re looking for a SEND Support Assistant to join a Primary School in the centre of Newcastle full time, supporting pupils with additional needs to access learning, build confidence, and feel genuinely understood in the classroom.

You’ll be working closely with class teachers and the SENCO to support pupils with a range of additional needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH and communication differences.

Whether you’re a psychology graduate looking to take your first step into education, or an experienced SEND Teaching Assistant who already knows the power of consistency and calm in the classroom, this role offers a brilliant opportunity to grow and have genuine impact.

What you’ll be doing

* Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with additional needs
* Helping children access learning in a way that works for them
* Supporting emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
* Working closely with the class teacher to adapt activities and resources
* Using de-escalation techniques when needed, always with a calm, reassuring approach

Who this role is perfect for

We’re open-minded on background, what matters most is your attitude, empathy, and ability to connect with children.

You might be:

* A psychology graduate looking to build experience in child development, education, or educational psychology
* An experienced SEND Teaching Assistant ready for a new setting
* Someone who has worked in care, youth work, or support roles and is looking to move into education
* Confident, calm, and naturally patient when things don’t go to plan

About the school

Located just off Newcastle town centre, this mainstream primary school boasts excellent transport links and a staff car park. This primary school has a strong commitment to inclusive education and supporting pupils with additional needs.

The school works to ensure every child feels valued, supported, and able to succeed in their own way. You’ll be joining a team that prioritises relationships, consistency, and a nurturing approach to learning.
