Duration
Approximately 3 years
Location
The role will be based in London, with a significant amount of time spent on-site during night shifts. There will also be opportunities to work during the day to understand the planning and preparation involved in renewals.
Entry requirements
You should already hold or be working towards a minimum of 5 GCSEs Grade 4 (C) and above in Maths, English language and a Science (or equivalent) plus 2 A-Levels in any subject at grade A* - D (or equivalent).
You are not eligible for this scheme if you currently hold or are working towards a qualification at the same or higher level in a related subject or have already studied content from the qualification for this scheme.

You must be 18 years of age by 7th September 2026 to apply for this apprenticeship.

What Qualifications will I gain?
A Level 4 qualification in Construction and Built Environment that meets the knowledge requirements of the standard and is approved by the industry’s recognised professional bodies meeting the educational requirements for Technician status or the equivalent level of membership.

What will I be doing?
This apprenticeship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience overseeing ballasted track renewals and deep tube renewals across the London Underground infrastructure. You will learn to supervise specialist contractors and workers on construction projects, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency.

Where can this career take me?
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will be a Chartered Building Surveyor with world renowned status. You will have the opportunity to develop your career further and be responsible for you’re the design and implementation of your own projects, which could range from minor refurbishments to major infrastructure projects.
It is TfL’s intention to bring the right candidate up to the level of Member of the Chartered Institute of Building. This is a very good grounding for a fascinating career in track renewals and you will be encouraged to progress to full membership.
