Therapeutic Practitioner

Join us at Pebbles Care as a part‑time Therapeutic Practitioner on a twelve‑month fixed‑term contract covering maternity leave. You will work across a cluster of homes in the North of England, supporting the emotional and well‑being needs of children in residential care and education.


Base pay range

£28,000 to £33,000 per annum, pro rata, depending on experience.


Your role

The role involves regular travel to homes, occasional remote work, and close collaboration with care and education teams to embed trauma and attachment‑informed practice. You will provide therapeutic assessment, formulation, psychoeducation and, when qualified, direct therapy. Supervision will be provided by the Head of Psychology.


Key responsibilities

* Undertake therapeutic assessment and formulation of children and young people to assist care planning and risk management.
* Support staff teams with therapeutic interventions such as emotional regulation work, relationship building, and psychoeducation on trauma.
* Observe and conduct psychometric and other clinical/forensic assessments.
* Provide direct therapeutic psychoeducation or therapy to children and young people.
* Conduct trauma‑informed consultations with residential and educational practitioners, emphasizing attachment theory.
* Attend professional meetings to support staff and children as needed.
* Engage in research/audit relevant to therapeutic residential childcare.
* Maintain professional development, supervision and CPD within your competencies.
* Assist commissioning teams and managers in matching children to placements.
* Promote transparency and support for children in care.
* Embed a trauma‑informed approach recognising ACEs.
* Deliver training to care teams.
* Provide stakeholder information on performance and outputs.
* Keep up to date with developments in theory and research.


Essential qualifications

* Degree in Psychology or a related health and social care subject.
* Relevant qualification and membership of a governing body (e.g. BACP/UKCP).
* Good understanding of attachment theory and trauma, with ability to apply them in practice.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to work within a team, motivated and able to work independently.
* Valid UK driving licence and ability to travel to homes.


Desirable qualifications

* Further academic or training in a relevant psychological or therapeutic discipline.
