Purpose & Scope of the Role As a key member of our consultancy team, you’ll be responsible for delivering expert fire and health & safety advice, conducting risk assessments, and supporting clients in meeting regulatory obligations. You’ll work closely with experienced professionals and report to the Technical Director, contributing to project delivery, client engagement, and the continuous improvement of our services. This hybrid role typically involves 2–3 days per week on client sites and 2–3 days working remotely. Most client sites are located within or around the M25 corridor, with occasional national travel. To ensure efficient site coverage, candidates must be based within the M25 area, with travel times not exceeding 1.5 hours each way. Field Work & Fire Risk Assessments This role requires a confident and self-sufficient professional capable of conducting independent site visits, primarily within student accommodation and high-rise residential buildings. The successful candidate will have experience reviewing fire strategies, with the ability to critically assess and challenge existing approaches. They will advise clients on compliance and best practice across key fire safety elements, including fire resistance standards, alarm categories, sprinkler systems, wet and dry risers, fire doors, and lifts. Strong decision-making skills are essential, as is the ability to identify defects and deliver clear, actionable recommendations that support client safety and regulatory adherence Technical Reporting & Compliance Commentary This role demands strong technical writing skills and a thorough understanding of the BAFE review process. The successful candidate will be responsible for producing detailed, fire and health and safety risk assessment reports that meet BAFE certification standards, supported by commentary that clearly explains the rationale behind each decision. Reports must reference site notes and include photographs, and actionable recommendations, with all assessment responses justified, whether marked as yes, no, or not applicable. Experience in evidencing and recording compliance details is essential, and all documentation will be subject to technical review and feedback from the Technical Director Technical Insight & Fire Safety Expertise This role requires a strong grasp of both fire and health and safety legislation and technical standards, with the ability to independently analyse and critique fire safety strategies. Candidates must demonstrate sound judgement and a clear understanding of the complexities across various building types, including low-, medium-, and high-rise structures. Experience with specialist sites such as airports or military contractors is advantageous. A future development pathway into fire engineering may be available for those with the ambition and capability to grow in this direction. Residential Fire Risk Expertise This role centres on conducting fire risk assessments in residential settings, with a strong focus on student accommodation and high-rise buildings. Candidates must bring at least 6–12 months of relevant experience and demonstrate a solid understanding of the complexities and regulatory standards associated with high-rise residential environments. While residential fire safety forms the core of the role, there may be opportunities to contribute to unique and high-profile projects across sectors such as aerospace, defence, and commercial operations. Experience in care homes, hospitals, or commercial buildings is valuable, provided it is supported by a strong foundation in residential fire risk assessment. Stakeholder Engagement & Stakeholder Management The successful candidate will demonstrate confidence and professionalism in engaging with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally. They will regularly liaise with the Resource Team to coordinate site visits and ensure all pre-visit information is accurately communicated. Externally, they will represent the company in interactions with property managers, area managers, and directors, adapting their communication style to suit varying levels of seniority and influence. Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to build effective relationships across diverse groups are essential. MANDATORY Training & Qualification Requirements Minimum entry level NEBOSH, or NEBOSH Fire. Diploma level qualification in Health and Safety. CMIOSH – have or working towards Chartered Member, possibly a Technical Member. Have FRA level 4 residential, will accept Level 3 though must have mid-rise residential experience with desire to undertake high-rise with relevant technical abilities. Registered with the IFSM or IFE, with the minimum grade of Technician, or ideally Associate, ideally Member. CFRAR (Competent Fire Risk Assessors Register) desired (Ideally Tier 2 or willing to work towards Tier 2). BENEFICIAL Training, Qualifications, Or Equivalent Work Experience Experience or training in risk assessment methodologies and safety management systems. Equivalent practical work experience in fire, health and safety consultancy or related sectors may be acceptable in lieu of formal qualifications. Progress toward or attainment of Chartered Status with a relevant professional body (e.g. IOSH, IFE). IFSM Technician (TIFSM) Membership Grade.
