Overview
We're working with a business that needs a Design Manager who can take ownership of the full Tekla modelling process, from interpreting client drawings to delivering fabrication-ready outputs. You'll be leading design delivery across both internal and outsourced projects, working closely with the Technical Manager and collaborating with the Structures Department and wider technical teams. If you know your way around steel structures, architectural metalwork, and Tekla, this is well worth considering.
The Role
* You'll be the driving force behind the design process, making sure everything is accurate, on time, and fit for fabrication. Expect to get involved in:
* 3D modelling of steel structures in Tekla
* Producing approval, component, and fabrication drawings
* Detailing architectural metalwork: handrails, balustrades, balconies, gates, railings, canopies, staircases
* Bolt connection design and detailing
* Managing the full design cycle—from initial drawings to fabrication packs
* Aligning drawing delivery with project fabrication programmes
* Running the RFI process and liaising with engineers, architects, and design teams
* Value engineering designs to improve efficiency and buildability
* Producing part lists and take-offs to support procurement
* Carrying out site checks to ensure design quality is reflected in the build
* Supporting EN1090 certification and other accreditations
* Producing NCRs and enforcing QEMS standards
* Collaborating across disciplines within the Technical Department
* Regular comms with the Technical Manager and Structures Department Manager
Experience / Qualifications
* Technically savvy, organised, and confident dealing with clients and consultants. You should bring:
* Solid experience in Tekla modelling for building structures
* Strong understanding of drawing standards, steelwork design, and erection methodology
* Ability to communicate directly with engineers and architects to resolve queries
* Good time management and ability to work to tight programmes
* Analytical mindset for solving design challenges
* Familiarity with QEMS procedures and a commitment to continuous improvement
