Job Title: Defence Solicitor
Defending police forces, their claims handlers and insurers requires a unique set of skills and expertise.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage pre and litigated claims including false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, and assault
* Work as part of a team providing comprehensive legal advice and representation to the Chief Constable
* Advise on civil orders in the Magistrates' Court and the County Court
* Assess and respond to requests in line with Force Policy, legislation, and common law principles
* Advising officers and staff on disclosure requests and documentation
* Assist team members with client development, training, networking, and public speaking
* Liaise with various parties such as solicitors, insurers, experts, counsel, and clients
* Control Case Manager diary and action lists
* Draft documents such as letters, reports, and pleadings
* Perform billing duties and ensure timely payment
* Satisfy standards of client care in accordance with guidelines and directions
* Complete Client MI procedures
* Achieve financial and chargeable targets
* Comply with relevant rules, policies, and procedures
* Keep up to date with legal developments
Required Skills and Qualifications
Essential Requirements:
* 3+ years of PQE
* Experience of defending litigated claims
* Excellent knowledge of the CPR and litigation
* Ability to influence key decision makers
* Excellent organisation and time management skills
* Excellent communication skills
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
* Ability to work as part of a team or on own initiative
