Salary: £46,142–£49,282 per annum + Excellent Local Authority Benefits

About the Service
Newcastle City Council provides residential care to some of the most vulnerable young people in the city, many of whom have experienced multiple placement breakdowns and present complex needs. Our homes are supported by an experienced management team and the Future Focus Team, ensuring a strong foundation for excellent practice and continuous improvement.

The Role
As a Deputy Manager / Deputy Officer in Charge, you will play a pivotal role in the operation and development of the home. Working closely with the Registered Manager, you will help ensure excellent standards of care, regulatory compliance, and effective team leadership.
Your responsibilities include:
* Supporting the Home Manager with day-to-day operational leadership
* Ensuring compliance with Ofsted regulations and Children’s Homes Standards
* Leading shifts, supervising staff, and promoting a safe, nurturing environment
* Modelling trauma-informed, relationship-based practice
* Supporting staff development through reflective supervision and coaching
* Managing challenging situations, including verbal and physical aggression, using trauma-informed strategies
* Maintaining high-quality records and ensuring strong collaborative working with professionals such as social workers, CAMHS, and police
* Contributing to service development and shaping residential practice
* Covering shifts and occasional sleep-ins as required. This is a significant leadership post that offers a strong platform for progression into senior management roles.
About You
We’re looking for an experienced, dynamic and motivated leader who is:
* Experienced in residential childcare
* Qualified with a recognised Social Work qualification or Level 3/4 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
* Willing to undertake the Level 5 Diploma once in post
* Knowledgeable about trauma, mental health, and neurodevelopmental conditions
* Skilled in leading teams and building resilient, positive cultures
* Confident in managing complex behaviours using a trauma-informed approach
* Organised, reflective, and able to maintain high-quality case records
* Committed to safeguarding and excellent outcomes for young people
