Job Details:
* Salary Range: £1,413 - £5,652 per annum, plus additional incident call out payments
* Work Location: Basingstoke Fire Station
* Hours per week: Minimum of 31 on-call hours per week
* Contract Type: Permanent
The Role:
An on-call firefighter is a paid employee of the fire and rescue service who responds to emergencies and engages with the community. They have regular lives and jobs until called upon, at which point they become professional firefighters.
Although called ‘part-time’, on-call firefighters are trained and experienced, playing a crucial role in saving lives and protecting communities. They receive thorough training on emergency response and personal skills.
On-call firefighters come from diverse backgrounds, including full-time or part-time employment, self-employment, studying, or unemployment. They dedicate their time to supporting the fire and rescue service and community safety.
This demanding role offers the opportunity to make a significant contribution, develop close team relationships, and participate in community events. Responsibilities include fire fighting, community fire safety, flooding response, co-responding, road accidents, chemical spills, and animal rescue.
Previous Experience:
No prior experience is required as comprehensive training is provided. Enthusiasm and meeting essential requirements are key. Physical fitness is crucial, as the role can be physically demanding.
Note: To be eligible, applicants must live and/or work within 4 minutes of the Fire Station; applications outside this area will be rejected.
