Overview
Applications are invited for the position of Locum Consultant Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust. This is for 12 months maternity leave cover.
Responsibilities
* Embrace all aspects of the specialty including surgery, audit, research, innovation and education.
* Work to expand the surgical repertoire of the team and drive clinical initiatives.
* Practice Oncoplastic breast surgery (including therapeutic mammoplasty), lipo-modelling and immediate breast reconstruction for mastectomy patients with pedicle flaps (LD and TRAM) and implant-based reconstruction with biological mesh.
* Collaborate within a multidisciplinary breast team, working with 3 consultant Breast oncologists who provide adjuvant treatments and Plastic Surgery colleagues at the Royal Preston Hospital site who provide free perforator flap support.
* Participate in outpatient clinics, theatre sessions, MDT meetings and associated admin time with SPA as part of a full-time 10 PA post.
* Contribute to a breast unit that includes a cancer centre with a radiotherapy unit and a regional centre opened to support the Central Lancashire Breast Unit.
Work Environment & Mix
The breast team works in close collaboration with colleagues; the service runs new patient breast clinics across the week (approximately 10 clinics per week) with biopsy results discussed at MDT meetings on Thursdays. The service treats approximately 330 cancers per annum. There are 9 dedicated breast surgery theatre sessions per week. A well-established breast care nurse team supports cancer follow-up and results clinics.
