Job summary
This role is a substantive post within the department of Palliative and End of Life Care, reflecting the Trust's commitment to delivering the best care for patients and their loved ones in their last years of life. The post involves providing a consultant-led multidisciplinary specialist palliative and end of life care (P&EOLC) service within the acute hospital, including outreach to the Victoria Centre on the hospital site. It is advertised as 5 PAS; please enquire if seeking flexibility.

Main duties of the job
The role provides specialist advice, support, and education throughout the hospital, focusing on the recently refurbished front door with a structured process for patients with palliative and end of life needs.
The P&EOLC service operates Monday to Friday, with out-of-hours advice via a telephone helpline in partnership with Prospect Hospice, providing mutual cross-cover when needed.

Job description

Key Responsibilities
* Provide Consultant care, advice, and support across hospital and community settings.
* Offer consultations and reviews for inpatients and outpatients.
* Lead multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to service development and audit.
* Support policy and strategy development within the division.
Person Specification
Qualifications (Essential): GMC registration, CCT or equivalent, MRCP (UK) or equivalent. Desirable: Higher degrees, advanced communication skills, postgraduate teaching qualification, Certificate/Diploma in Palliative Care.
Clinical Experience (Essential): Leadership in multidisciplinary teams, competence in palliative care assessments, expertise in Palliative Medicine conditions. Desirable: Experience with large research studies, undergraduate/postgraduate education delivery.
Teaching & Research (Essential): Ability to teach, peer-reviewed publications, research experience. Desirable: Research leadership, education program design.
Leadership & Management (Essential): Multidisciplinary team leadership, management skills. Desirable: Feedback on team working, personal coaching experience.
Attributes (Essential): Empathy, effective communication, integrity, alignment with STAR values. Desirable: MDT feedback, coaching.
