PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £40,000 - £48,500 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative Senior Journalist (Reporter) to join our busy news team in the Highlands. You'll be able to deliver expert, authoritative and innovative news coverage as part of a small team covering a huge geographical area. You'll be required to report for multi-platform outlets including radio, TV, online and social media. You will be comfortable working alone or as part of a team in a variety of roles. The job will involve TV and radio package making, live on-air reporting, writing for radio news bulletins and providing online content.

Based in the Highlands, our Senior Journalist (Reporter) will play a key role in the wider BBC strategy to provide strong local and national news coverage. You will be able to demonstrate in depth knowledge of the news agenda of the Highlands and Islands as well as having good contacts or the ability to develop them. A knowledge of Gaelic would be advantageous in this role. The successful candidate will have clear ideas of how digital news services can help us attract and develop new audiences. You will also have lots of story ideas and an ability to identify the under-reported stories affecting people and communities in the area. You will have an understanding of the institutions of the region, the issues affecting those living here, and how we can represent the diverse range of communities.
YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:
Provide high-quality journalism for TV, Radio and Online outlets.
Develop original journalism stories throughout the region.
Work collaboratively with different teams across the BBC for the greatest impact.
Have a strong understanding of audience needs particularly those currently under-represented in BBC output.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
Excellent editorial judgement and significant experience delivering high-quality journalism.
Experience of taking editorial decisions quickly and independently while under pressure to meet deadlines and a changing news agenda.
Demonstrate knowledge of Scots law and the law as it affects broadcasting.
There will be some weekend and evening working, considerable travel and a willingness to be flexible according to the editorial demands of the position.
