Offer description

Bradgate Park was first enclosed as a deer park around 800 years ago. It provides 830 acres of publicly accessible countryside close to Leicester City Centre with another 146 acres at Swithland Wood. Most of the park is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest and offers a wild and rugged landscape with dramatic rocky outcrops and ancient trees. The landscape is home to herds of red and fallow deer, some of the oldest in-situ fossils in the UK, the ruins of one of the most important country houses of Tudor England and many species of locally scarce wildlife. The Charity’s office is at the Deer Barn in the heart of Bradgate Park, also the location of the Visitor Centre and Deer Barn café. With over 750,000 visitors a year, Bradgate Park and Swithland Wood is very much about people as well as wildlife – our team of nearly 200 volunteers give around 20,000 hours to the site each year to help keep it in great condition as well as engaging with visitors. From dry-stone walling to archiving and from leading school groups to litter picking, they support much of what we do. This role is absolutely key to coordinating this incredible resource. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with excellent organisation skills who can coordinate and administrate our volunteer sessions as well as get hands-on with the volunteers on key tasks. You will need to be able to work closely with the rest of the Bradgate team to ensure tasks run smoothly and build strong relationships with volunteers to ensure they are motivated, engaged and feel like part of the team. Ideally you will have some or all of the following skills: Knowledge and experience of the voluntary sector and working with volunteers; Experience in the environmental / outdoor / heritage sector; Ability to build strong relationships; Strong organisation, administration and IT skills; Ability to deliver clear and concise communication; Able to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team. For enquiries, please call our Estate Office on 0116 236 2713. To apply, please download the Job Description and Person Specification from our website. Your application should outline clearly and will be assessed against how you meet the items in the Person Specification. CVs submitted on their own without a completed application form will not be assessed.
