This post offers an exciting opportunity for a successful candidate to take on a senior role within the Obstetric and Gynaecology Department at UHCW NHS Trust. The candidate will collaborate with clinical colleagues to deliver comprehensive obstetrics and gynaecological services to patients in Coventry and Warwickshire.
The post holder will join a high-performing team at a regional centre providing care across obstetric, gynaecological, and neonatal pathways. The department is heavily involved in research, with close links to the Tommy’s National Centre for Miscarriage Research at UHCW and an integrated Centre for Reproductive Medicine.
The role is based at University Hospital, Coventry, with outpatient commitments at the Hospital of St Cross, Rugby, and community sites. The post involves administrative and management responsibilities within the Trust, with job planning adjustments after six months in post.
Key Responsibilities
1. Provide strong leadership to all disciplines, ensuring guidance is available to staff within obstetrics and gynaecology.
2. Support the expansion of the ambulatory gynaecology service.
3. Develop close working patterns, shared guidelines, education, and standards across disciplines.
4. Communicate openly with clinicians, midwives, nurses, and administrative staff about departmental developments.
5. Promote continuous learning, research, audit, education, and training.
6. Participate in Labour Ward and Quality of Care forums, ensuring feedback leads to improvements.
7. Facilitate skills drills and remedial actions for deficiencies.
8. Take ongoing responsibility for patient care.
9. Contribute to teaching and supervising medical students and coordinate sessions.
10. Maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues in other specialties and participate in clinical meetings and postgraduate activities.
11. Supervise and develop trainee doctors, including appraisals of Specialist Trainees.
12. Develop good communication with GPs and external agencies.
13. Ensure personal practice remains current and participate in professional development and performance reviews.
14. Ensure compliance with data protection laws and Trust policies.
