We have an exciting opportunity for a Museum Assistant to join the existing Visitor Services team at Fort Nelson. Reporting to the Visitor Services Officer, the successful applicant will welcome all visitors to the museum and perform a wide range of duties, including daily public engagement, operating the museum gift shop, opening and closing the site, operating the junior assault course, and running the crossbows range.
The Royal Armouries is the United Kingdom’s national museum of arms and armour and one of the most important collections of its type in the world, with its headquarters and flagship museum in Leeds, its historic home at the Tower of London, and the Victorian Fort Nelson in Hampshire.
Responsibilities
* Welcome visitors and deliver consistently excellent customer service.
* Engage with groups of visitors and promote the Fort and National Collection of Artillery.
* Operate the museum gift shop, junior assault course and crossbows range.
* Open and close the site, and perform related duties as directed by the Visitor Services Officer.
Qualifications
* Energetic, enthusiastic and a team player with a positive ‘can do’ attitude.
* Flexible, self‑motivated, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Previous experience or interest in arms and artillery collections is desirable.
* Full induction and training will be provided for all aspects of the role.
Hours
This role will work on site at Fort Nelson for 31 weeks at 30 hours per week and 21 weeks at 24 hours per week, on a rota basis of four days out of seven. Weekend, evening and bank holiday working will be required.
