Graduate Quantity Surveyor – Job Description

Job Details

1. Job Title: Graduate Quantity Surveyor

2. Reporting to: Senior Quantity Surveyor / Managing Quantity Surveyor

Purpose of the Position

The Graduate Quantity Surveyor will work as part of the Business Unit commercial team to provide a general Quantity Surveying services for projects and tendering support as required.

The position involves interfacing on a regular basis with a dedicated Quantity Surveyor, Operations, Finance and Engineering departments and working directly with local project sites and Project / Site Managers to ensure optimum delivery of projects.

The jobholder will contribute to the continuous development of the role to reflect changing business needs through flexibility, adaptability and determination to achieve the demanding performance objectives required to ensure all KPIs are attained.

The role is a hybrid position including travel and working from a site.

Responsibilities & Duties

Including but not limited to the following:

3. Assisting in understanding clients' requirements

4. Assisting in preparing monthly management reports

5. Understanding and applying health and safety regulations

6. Allocating work to subcontractors

7. Assisting in arranging payments for completed work

8. Preparing tender and contract documents

9. Writing reports

10. Procurement of sub-contractors and Supporting Quantity Surveyor in preparation of contract documents

11. Supporting Quantity Surveyor in preparation of initial project budgets and thereafter maintaining them on a regular basis through the life cycle of the project

12. Supporting Quantity Surveyor in preparation and agreement of variations for civil and electrical works with clients

13. Supporting Quantity Surveyor in preparation of valuation claims based on the Activity Schedules set up at Contract Award

14. Ensure that a detailed measure of works completed is maintained on an ongoing basis

15. Apply stringent commercial awareness when splitting these milestone payments to ensure that cash flow is maximised

16. Supporting Quantity Surveyor in timely submission of cost/value reconciliations

17. Supporting Quantity Surveyor in management of sub-contractor valuations and associated payments

18. Maintain accurate cost reporting systems and associated projections

19. Completion of internal monthly cost forecasting and project reviews

20. Efficient use of the company IT systems for document control between Omexom, client, designers and sub-contractors

Person Specification

Qualifications and Experience

The jobholder must be a commercially focused self-starter with the enthusiasm, motivation and initiative to succeed in this role and possess:

28. Degree qualified with an RICS accredited degree in a related subject, such as a BSc in Quantity Surveying and Cost Management.

29. IT literate

30. Excellent communication combined with the analytical and problem solving skills to reach realistic workable solutions.

31. Strong commercial focus with ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.

32. Ability to use initiative to develop new approaches and improve systems.

33. Good decision making and problem-solving skills and the ability to work on own initiative with minimum supervision.

34. Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and be able to negotiate and use conflict resolution skills where appropriate.

35. A flexible / adaptable approach to job role, working away from home when required and to a fast-changing business environment.

36. Highly motivated with strong levels of accountability and ownership.

37. Access to a form of transport to meet the requirements of the role, with the flexibility to travel throughout the UK when required.

38. A working knowledge of Standard forms of Contract

Desirable:

39. An understanding or awareness of the electrical contracting industry or broader utility environment would be advantageous.
