Position: Thornapple Kellogg Middle School Principal
Summary:
Thornapple Kellogg Middle School is seeking a dynamic, student-centered instructional leader to serve as Principal. The Principal is responsible for fostering a positive, inclusive, and academically rigorous learning environment that supports the success of all students. This role provides visionary leadership in curriculum, instruction, student services, and staff development while maintaining a strong partnership with families and the broader community. The Principal ensures a safe school climate, promotes continuous improvement, and aligns building goals with district priorities. Thornapple Kelloss School District is part of the Kent Intermediate School District.
Qualifications:
1. Master’s Degree or higher in Educational Leadership, Administration, or a related field
2. Valid Michigan Administrative Certificate (or eligibility to obtain)
3. Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience; administrative experience preferred
4. Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum development, instructional best practices, and student assessment
5. Demonstrated knowledge of Michigan’s State Standards, curriculum development, use of student achievement data, PBIS, MTSS, and school improvement processes to provide leadership that supports meeting the needs of all learners
6. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
7. Proven ability to build relationships with students, staff, families, and community stakeholders
8. Experience managing budgets, resources, and school operations preferred
9. Evidence of ability to consistently foster collaboration, competency, and continuous improvement
10. Experience and understanding of the use of AI in improving instruction and student outcomes
Job Responsibilities:
11. Provide leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and instruction
12. Promote high-quality teaching practices and continuous professional growth for staff
13. Utilize data to drive instructional decisions and improve student outcomes
14. Support implementation of district initiatives and state standards
15. Foster a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment for all students and staff
16. Lead efforts to promote positive student behavior and engagement
17. Address student discipline in a fair and consistent manner aligned with district policies
18. Supervise, evaluate, and support certified and support staff
19. Facilitate professional development aligned to school improvement goals
20. Build collaborative teams and promote a culture of shared leadership
21. Oversee daily school operations, including scheduling, facilities, and resource allocation
22. Manage the building budget responsibly and efficiently
23. Ensure compliance with district policies, state regulations, and legal requirements
24. Communicate effectively with families and community members
25. Build partnerships that enhance student opportunities and school programs
26. Represent the school positively within the community
27. Lead the development and implementation of the School Improvement Plan
28. Monitor progress toward goals and adjust strategies as needed
29. Ensure alignment with district and state accountability measures
30. Active participation and leadership in developing and facilitating professional development on topics related to assessment, data, growth measures, PBIS, school improvement, and MTSS
31. Assist in organizing, planning and facilitating registrations, open houses, parent informational meetings and parent-teacher conferences in relation to matters of assessment, data, post-secondary planning, etc.
32. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent
