Overview
We are looking for a Senior Refrigeration Engineer to step into a Managing Engineer role in our South West Region supermarket FM operations. You will lead a team of refrigeration engineers, manage maintenance, and ensure high quality service across the region.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervise and support a team of refrigeration engineers, serving as their daily point of contact, providing management support, guidance, training and development.
* Plan and oversee planned and reactive maintenance tasks, ensuring completion on time and within budget.
* Manage the call‑out rota, providing adequate and safe cover at all times.
* Control day‑to‑day staffing, including management of an “on‑call” rota.
* Assist the Area Support Manager with HR processes: completion of return to work forms, handling disciplinary incidents, conducting performance reviews, scheduling holiday and absence cover, and escalating accidents or near misses.
* Provide technical support and training to the team on major operational issues and major incidents.
* Assist the team in delivering high quality Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) work.
* Work with the Area Support Manager to address Health & Safety issues, report and elevate matters requiring attention.
* Assist with effective budgetary management of parts and materials, reporting overspend and variances to budget.
* Attend client and manager meetings on behalf of the business within your region.
* Accept flexible working hours, including weekend work and on‑call cover (approximately 1 in 4 Saturdays and 1 in 4 weeks).
Qualifications
* Full UK driving licence.
* City & Guilds qualified in Refrigeration or equivalent, including F‑Gas 18th Edition (desirable).
* Minimum 5 years post‑qualification experience, working on a mobile basis in refrigeration.
* Demonstrable management/supervisory experience.
* Experience in a Facilities Management environment with refrigeration engineering in supermarkets.
* Excellent communication skills, ability to influence and use diplomacy with clients and colleagues.
* Capability to supervise engineers in a pressurised environment dealing with store teams and public.
* Ability to prioritise a complex and demanding workload.
