Rethink Mental Illness are hiring a Peer Support Worker to join our inspiring and friendly team at Topping Mill, Bury.

Imagine being part of an organisation whose common purpose is to help those who are severely impacted by mental illness. We believe that everyone should be treated with respect and dignity – and that’s why equity is one of our core values.

Our Topping Mill Service provides stable transition accommodation and support, to people over the age of 18, for up to 5 years. Our supported living accommodation provides person-centred support, based on their recovery journey. This will enable users to move onto housing within the community. Topping Mill consists of 14 self-contained flats, along with a shared lounge on both the ground and first floor.

Overview of a Peer Support Worker role:

The Lifestyle Peer Support Worker will form an important role in the community rehabilitation service to promote healthier and happier lifestyles among people with severe mental illness. The role will be fixed base at our Scott & Rosse Place 14 self-contained supported living service – Bury. You will work alongside our mental health support workers, to proactively engage with the clients to offer a wide range of activities that will aim to improve quality of life.

The ideal candidate would have some personal experience of mental health. You will, as part of the team, be able to communicate with service users in a professional manner taking into account our core values connect, accountable, respect, evolve, success.

Essential Skills and Experience Required

* Lived experience of mental health illness and the willingness to share elements of your personal journey in a boundaries approach, to inspire others and to work in a relatable way.
* Transferable life experience to apply to this role, understanding the challenges which co-exist alongside common mental health illnesses.
* Understanding of a strengths-based approach to reframe challenges as opportunities for finding new solutions.
