The University of York invites applications from exceptional individuals for the position of Head of Department & Professor of Evidence Synthesis for the Centre for Reviews and Dissemination (CRD). The role of Head of Department will be for a 4 year term, after which the appointee will continue as a research professor. The successful candidate will have a world-class reputation in evidence synthesis as well as the leadership qualities required for a HoD and will be expected to retain an active research portfolio alongside leadership of the department.
CRD is at the forefront of evidence synthesis, achieving a top ten place in REF21. For over 30 years CRD has generated robust and trustworthy evidence to inform health and public health policy and practice. It has played a key role in promoting the use of research evidence in real-world decision-making.
Head of CRD Responsibilities
The Head of CRD will provide collaborative leadership, nurturing a culture of excellence in research, and of collegiality, respect and commitment to equity. The successful candidate will:
* Cultivate a Shared Vision: Develop and articulate a compelling vision for CRD, enhancing its national and international reputation for research.
* Support Collaborative Research: Champion and facilitate collaborative research within and beyond the wider University.
* Foster a Connected Research Community: Nurture a supportive and inclusive research environment that values diversity, equity, and open intellectual exchange.
* Facilitate Effective Resource Management: Oversee department’s finances, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities through collaborative decision making.
* Serve as an Ambassador: Represent CRD and the University, engaging with external stakeholders and contributing to the broader research community.
* Guide Strategic Implementation: Translate strategic goals into actionable operational plans, guiding through collaborative leadership.
* Engage in Collective Faculty Leadership: Participate actively in the faculty's collective decision-making.
Key Requirements
* A proven track record of collaborative and strategic research leadership, with the ability to inspire, support, and empower colleagues.
* PhD in a relevant health, science or social science subject (or equivalent)
* A strong record of collaborative research and impactful publications
* Experience in strategic planning, financial management, and resource allocation.
* A strong commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic community.
