Welcome to the DfT Construction & Infrastructure Category Management Team, this is a small but perfectly formed team that is working on exciting things, we work closely with our arm's length bodies Network Rail, HS2, National Highways and Transport for London on some of the most exciting transport projects the country is delivering. Our Job is to try to help them think about how their combined demand impacts the markets and supply chains and actively seek opportunities for efficiencies and collaboration.
We are recruiting for this role because our current lead category manager has accepted a talent move to a higher grade after the fantastic work that's been delivered here.
The team is working as part of the wider assurance; supply chain and category management team and we sit in the Group Commercial Directorate for the Department for Transport. This is a great team, geographically dispersed so we can accept applications from people working in any of the DfT locations.
We engage with a huge number of stakeholders both within the Department for Transport, other Government Departments such as DBT and NISTA, Industry trade bodies and our Arm's length bodies. We are helping to deliver some of the most exciting projects, and we are actively working to shape policy in really important areas like steel.
The role holder would be required to deliver three construction categories in the 12 months in post and would be viewed as the expert in those categories, called upon to provide reports and dashboards and support decision making within the business and when responding to write arounds and PPN's. The candidate would have full autonomy to develop and deliver the categories in the way they choose., The successful candidate(s) will be able to agree a contractual workplace from those locations listed in this advert. Person specification
The successful candidate will be:
+ Market Analysis: Sourcing and Procuring transport specific market intelligence to underpin category approaches
+ Initiatives tracking; ensuring all initiatives are identified, across the Department for Transport (Central) (DfT), the Transport Group, and across Government, which have an impact on the long-term delivery of transport construction objectives and are regularly tracked
+ Assessing the impact of initiatives; using analytical and economics skills to quantitatively assess the impact of initiatives in support of to the long-term delivery of transport objectives
+ Developing Category Strategies: Collaborating with Department for Transport (DfT) construction Arm's Length Bodies (ALBs) to develop a picture of the future demand and using this information and all the information gathered on markets and government initiatives to develop effective category approaches
+ Developing risk and opportunity dashboards; Pulling together the knowledge gained for the category and presenting in an effective format to support knowledge transfer across the organisation and management meetings
+ Coordination with stakeholders across the DfTc and Group, at the most relevant level, and ensuring appropriate and robust stakeholder management is in place
+ Supporting the Head of Construction Category in drafting submissions to the most senior DfT Boards and other Government Departments where necessary.

This role is in the Construction and Infrastructure Category Management Team (CIC) and will support the joining up of the commercial strategies for the construction and infrastructure category across the DfT Group. The post-holder will be instrumental in enabling the DfT Group to deliver its ambitious capital investment goals.
