Financial Controller – Magherafelt
* Location: Magherafelt area
* Job Type: Full-time, permanent, site-based
* Salary: £60,000 - £70,000
Due to retirement, our growing commercial client seeks to appoint an experienced Financial Controller to lead and control their finance function, ensuring robust financial governance, accurate and timely reporting, and full statutory compliance. This pivotal role will provide clear commercial insight through budgeting, forecasting, cashflow management, and financial analysis, supporting operational performance and our ongoing growth and expansion.
Day-to-day of the role:
* Financial Reporting & Control:
o Prepare monthly management accounts and annual statutory accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
o Act as the principal liaison with external auditors, coordinating audit planning and ensuring timely completion of audits.
o Compile and present financial reports, forecasts, business plans, and statutory financial statements to senior management.
* Budgeting, Forecasting & Commercial Support:
o Prepare the annual budget and financial forecasts, including scenario modelling and risk analysis.
o Support pricing models for services, ensuring margins reflect operational costs and capital investment.
o Provide commercial support to operations and sales teams, including contract reviews and financial appraisals.
* Statutory Compliance & Taxation:
o Manage VAT, PAYE, and other statutory and regulatory returns, ensuring compliance with current legislation.
o Oversee payroll administration, including overtime, shift premiums, and pension auto-enrolment.
* Ledger Management & Banking:
o Manage sales and purchase ledger processes, including billing, invoicing, credit control, and supplier payments.
o Oversee banking functions, including account management, bank reconciliations, and cashflow forecasting.
* Systems, Controls & Sage Upgrade:
o Demonstrate strong working knowledge of Sage accounting systems and lead the upgrade to Sage 200.
o Maintain the integrity, security, and accuracy of financial data, continuously improving internal financial controls.
* Insurance, Risk & Compliance:
o Liaise with insurers and brokers to ensure appropriate and cost-effective insurance cover.
o Review insurance arrangements annually and following operational changes.
* Company Secretarial & External Liaison:
o Attend to company secretarial matters and manage relationships with external stakeholders including auditors, bankers, and HMRC.
* People Management:
o Lead, manage, and develop the finance team, ensuring strong controls and adherence to reporting deadlines.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Full or partly qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent); experience with proven experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role.
* Strong commercial acumen with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
* Well-developed organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
* High standards of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
* Strong IT and systems capability, including advanced use of accounting and reporting systems (Sage experience highly desirable).
