We're offering an exciting Level 6 Applied Mechanical Engineering Systems Degree Apprenticeship based at our Trawsfynydd Site in Gwynedd, North Wales — where you'll gain a full degree, hands-on industry experience, and expert mentorship, all while earning a salary.
What Is the Apprenticeship?
This Government-approved Level 6 Applied Mechanical Engineering Systems Degree Apprenticeship provides in-depth technical and academic training in mechanical engineering within the nuclear sector. The programme includes:
Day release study at Coleg Menai
Four days per week of practical, on-the-job training Trawsfynydd Site
Mentoring from experienced Mechanical Engineers
Experience working in real-world nuclear environments where safety and precision are paramount

Monday to Thursday, 07:15 – 17:00 (37 hours/week)

Key Responsibilities
As an Applied Mechanical Engineering Systems Apprentice, you will:
Support the maintenance, inspection, and reliability of mechanical plant systems
Assist in the design, modification, and improvement of mechanical equipment
Learn about pumps, valves, lifting systems and other critical plant infrastructure
Support fault diagnosis, testing, and performance monitoring activities
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary engineering teams
Apply engineering principles to support safe decommissioning and site restoration
Entry Requirements & What We're Looking For
We're seeking motivated individuals with a strong interest in mechanical engineering and problem-solving.
You must:
Be 18 or older by 3 August 2026
Have 3 A-Levels (A–C)* including Maths and a Science or Engineering-related subject
OR hold a relevant Level 3 qualification in Engineering
We're also looking for:
Enthusiasm for mechanical systems and engineering design
A methodical, safety-conscious approach
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Good communication and teamwork abilities
Willingness to learn in a highly regulated technical environment

The Recruitment Stages

Online Assessment (Neurosight): you will be sent a link from Neurosight to complete an online assessment to your email inbox that you applied with if you meet entry criteria.
1st Stage Interview (Online): you will be invited to attend a 1:1 online interview with an Early Careers member from the Nuclear Restoration Services. You will be required to have access to a microphone and video capabilities.
2nd Stage Interview (In-Person): you will be invited to attend an in-person interview with the relevant hiring manager(s) and an HR business partner. The location will be at the relevant site or at a suitable alternative location in close proximity. Your invite will indicate the location and further instructions so ensure you read the invite in full.
Offer/Onboarding: if successful, you will be offered the position. The Early Careers team from Nuclear Restoration Services will be in contact to start your onboarding process and setting you up on their systems.
Depending on the specific requirements of the business, you may be requested to bypass the first stage interview and proceed directly to the second stage interview.
