Research Associate

Applications are invited for a Research Associate or Nurse at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, working under the supervision of Professor Huw Morris. The post holder will work as part of a multidisciplinary research team and will contribute to the continued success of three research projects into Parkinson's disease and Atypical Parkinsonism Syndromes.

The position is based at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN). The post holder will play an important role in recruitment, liaising with participants and the organisation of study logistics, administration of neuropsychological tests and assisting in the collection patient blood and spinal fluid samples.


Main duties of the job

The post is available immediately and is funded by the NIHR clinical research network for 12 months in the first instance.

We are keen to hear from enthusiastic Research Associates or Nurses who are keen to develop their research career, with a particular interest in neurodegeneration and neurogenetics.

NHNN is a national and international leading centre of research, working collaboratively to expedite the translation of new insights from basic disease mechanisms into experimental medicine studies, clinical trials, treatments and rehabilitation techniques for the benefit of people with neurological disorders.

Person Specification


Knowledge and Qualifications

* Educated to degree or an equivalent relevant experience, e.g. Psychologist, Neuropsychologist, Genetic Counsellor, Allied Healthcare professional
* Completed/working towards degree in the speciality or related field
* Proven knowledge of GCP guidelines


Experience

* Experience in delivering evidence based practice
* Experience of explaining complex concepts to patients in a clear and simplified manner
* Experience of acting as a patient advocate
* Previous experience in audit and evaluation
* Experience of formal/informal teaching of patients and staff
* Experience of genetics and/or neurology
* Experience of phlebotomy, cannulation and management of central lines
* Experience of administrating neuropsychological/cognitive assessments
* Clinical research experience
* Experience of working in the NHS


Skills and Abilities

* Able to work autonomously with minimal supervision
* Ability to take charge and delegate duties
* Able to work across organisational and professional boundaries


Communication

* Proven ability to communicate effectively in writing
* Proven ability to communicate effectively verbally


Personal and People Development

* Ability to work effectively under pressure


Specific Requirements

* Awareness of appropriate health and safety legislation
* Understanding the implications of Equal Opportunities in practice
