Role & Responsibilities
The role of a Team Lead is to empower, inspire, support and develop the capabilities of their team to set them and their clients up for success. You’ll meet regularly with team members to manage, coach, motivate and engage them throughout the year, adapting your style to develop individuals. The People Manager role includes the following key areas:
Wellbeing
* Oversee and monitor absences (holidays, sickness, etc.) within Workday, ensuring alignment with department needs and Firm policies.
* Consult with the Partner and/or HR to address wellbeing issues consistently and promptly.
* Champion wellbeing policy, innovations and engagement within the team.
Recruitment & Onboarding
* Manage onboarding for new Team Members, including buddy allocation and developing starter training within the hub, linking with national and SSC induction schedules.
* Support integration of new employees to understand the Firm, Streams activity, priorities, policy and strategy.
* Define roles, set SMART objectives, and review performance ahead of probation completion.
* Deliver a Road to Competency pathway for each team member and conduct regular team meetings to provide direction and monitor performance and quality.
Performance Management
* Understand and apply the Achieving My Potential framework.
* Set and review SMART objectives for monthly, mid-year and annual performance reviews.
* Ensure statutory training compliance and coordinate additional training via the Workday platform.
* Use Management Information to track and improve productivity and quality.
* Foster a feedback culture and conduct regular performance reviews with input from the technical team.
* Provide open coaching conversations to address strengths and development areas.
* Identify succession pipelines at all levels and feed into wider local succession planning.
* Coordinate with Hub manager and/or HR to address performance issues consistently and promptly.
* Support firm-wide cyclical performance and pay processes with a fair view on performance and progression, aligned to pay and promotion frameworks.
Technical & Developmental Training
* Obtain SME support and provide guidance for the team.
* Ensure team members have relevant technical training and approve delegate requests as appropriate.
* Keep the team informed of latest technical and methodology developments.
Collaboration & Communication
* Coordinate with the workflow team to align staffing with seasonal peaks and new activity.
* Communicate effectively with SSC and the wider firm, representing the Tax hub as required.
* Establish regular feedback mechanisms with the technical Tax team and other SMEs supporting SSC activity.
* Lead small to medium projects across departments to deliver timely results for the Tax team and the wider firm.
Technical Requirements & Professional Skills
* Demonstrable leadership and management experience with flexible style.
* Strong coaching and development skills.
* Experience in performance reviews and policy-driven outcomes.
* Experience in MI creation and improving productivity/quality.
* IT skills: strong knowledge of MS Office, Teams, Excel and similar desktop applications.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
