Dorset Council is seeking an experienced and proactive Building Surveyor to support the effective management of our diverse property portfolio. This hands-on role is key to ensuring the safety, compliance, and high performance of our assets, while contributing to the delivery of quality public services across the county.
Location: Dorset Council
Set-up: Hybrid – 2-days per week on-site
Rate: £400-£500/day via umbrella inside IR35
Duration: Initial 6 months, potential extension
Hours: Full-time position (37-hours)
Responsibilities include:
1. Ensure asset safety, statutory compliance, and effective maintenance across the property portfolio
2. Deliver both planned and reactive maintenance programmes to maintain high operational standards
3. Manage and deliver capital repair projects (typically £100k+), from procurement through to completion
4. Oversee budgets, contracts, and procurement processes to ensure value for money
5. Collaborate closely with internal teams, contractors, and external partners to achieve shared goals
Requirements:
6. Degree-level qualification (or equivalent) with proven experience in building surveying or property management
7. Demonstrated ability to deliver repair and maintenance programmes and manage contractors effectively
8. Strong understanding of budget control, contract management, and stakeholder engagement
9. Proficiency with digital property management systems and sound legal/contractual knowledge
10. Strategic thinker with excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities
