Research Associate – Compliant Wing Fairing Manufacturing

The University of Bristol is recruiting a Research Associate in Compliant Wing Fairing Manufacturing to contribute to advanced aerospace engineering research focused on innovative manufacturing techniques for next-generation aircraft structures. The role is based within a leading engineering research environment dedicated to developing lightweight, efficient, and high-performance aerospace components.

The research project focuses on the design, analysis, and manufacturing of compliant wing fairing systems, aiming to improve aerodynamic efficiency, structural performance, and manufacturability of modern aircraft components. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team of researchers and engineers, contributing to experimental studies, computational modelling, and prototype development in advanced aerospace systems.

The role involves close collaboration with academic supervisors, research partners, and industry stakeholders. The Research Associate will contribute to research publications, technical reports, project dissemination activities, and may assist in mentoring postgraduate researchers. The position is part of a broader initiative to advance sustainable and efficient aerospace technologies.


Eligibility Criteria

* Applicants should hold a PhD (or be close to completion) in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related discipline
* Strong academic background in engineering or applied sciences is required
* Experience relevant to aerospace structures, manufacturing processes, or computational/experimental mechanics is desirable
* Candidates must demonstrate the ability to conduct independent research at a high academic level


Required Expertise/Skills

* Knowledge of aerospace structures and mechanical design principles
* Experience in manufacturing processes or structural optimization
* Strong analytical and computational modelling skills
* Proficiency in research methods and data analysis
* Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary research teams

Salary Details

Salary will be in accordance with University of Bristol research staff pay scales and dependent on experience.
