NHS Professionals are currently recruiting for an Anatomic PathologyTechnician to join the Pathology Department at University Hospital SouthamptonNHS Trust FT. The role requires the successful candidate to assist in theprovision of a comprehensive Mortuary service to the Trust and Southampton CityCoroner, carrying out both routine and specialised autopsy services.
Main duties of the job
As a Mortuary Technician, you will be expected to have sufficientprevious experience of working within an NHS mortuary setting, particularlyexperienced in doing body checks and liaising with funeral directors.
On a day-to-day basis you will be supporting the senior mortuary staff inthe delivery of the service.
The service operates Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 16:30 and the idealcandidate will be able to work full-time.

Job responsibilities
* Toreceive and register patients who have died from both within the Trust andacross the local health economy.
* Enteringpatient data on to the laboratory computer system.
* Toidentify and register patients effects according to existing legalrequirements.
* Tostore the patient according to the patients condition e.g. infectious state, inaccordance with department protocols.
* Tofacilitate the confirmation of the patient identification.
* Preparepatient for autopsy.
* Assist during the autopsyprocess. This will include the removal of viscera, the display of tissues forteaching purposes, use of specialist techniques when required, tissue andsample taking where appropriate, data collection.
* To comply with all Department and Trust policies and procedures relatingto organ and tissue retention and ensue that records are correctly maintained.

Qualifications
* - Sound experience of undertaking Cat 3 post mortems (dissection and circulator)
* - Sound experience of undertaking Peri-natal and Paediatric post mortems
* - Diploma or Level 3 / 4 qualifications in Anatomical Pathology Technician
