Job summary
Are you a registered social worker? Have you thought about working within prison mental health services?
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Social Worker to join our mental health team at HMP Millsike, a new all-electric Category C men's prison near York.
Prison environments are challenging yet rewarding. If you're looking to develop your skills in a dynamic environment, this could be the role for you.
HMP Millsike will house 1500 inmates, focusing on skills for employment on release to reduce reoffending. Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust was awarded the mental health service contract starting April 2025.
This role involves developing the service model, demonstrating excellence in person-centered care, providing training, and working closely with local social care authorities.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will assess and intervene for men in prison, working with healthcare professionals and partners, including prison staff and primary health providers. Responsibilities include developing the role, providing training, and supporting release planning for patients with complex mental health needs, collaborating with various partners.
The ideal candidate is a registered social worker with significant experience in mental health or learning disabilities, familiar with national directives and the criminal justice system, and capable of linking to community services.
About us
The post offers professional supervision, peer support, CPD opportunities, and collaboration with other social workers in health and justice sectors.
Key responsibilities include conducting assessments, delivering interventions, managing duties under the Mental Health Act, preparing social histories, and working with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies.
