You will be responsible for supporting the council in influencing the health and safety culture and ensuring compliance with all aspects of health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
The Council Health and Safety Team, between us, work with a wide range of front-line services such as Education, Social Work Services through to Sport and Leisure Centres, Waste Services, Roads, Customer Services, Community Assets, to enable them to support our communities across the Dumfries and Galloway region.
Two Health and Safety Officer posts are available for recruitment. One general Health and Safety Officer will assist our colleagues to support the safe delivery of a range of services. The Health and Safety Officer (Construction) post will concentrate on construction and building engineering projects.
You will also have the benefit of support from your colleagues within the dynamic health and safety team and the wider organisation.
You will provide health and safety advice and work closely with managers, employees and safety representatives in mitigating health and safety risks and engage on practical solutions; conduct site visits; support on incident investigations; and pro-actively monitor, audit and review health and safety arrangements for continuous improvement.

Requirements
A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.

*To enable staff career progression, we are offering this position for those qualified and partly qualified. This will mean if you meet the essential education qualification for the band 11 specification you will immediately commence on that band. If you meet the band 10 specification you will require to start on that band and commit to completing the qualification for band 11 over an agreed period of time.
