Occupational Therapist

To provide highly specialist Occupational Therapy assessment and interventions for young people open to the CAMHS Head2Head team. Using highly developed specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and recognised models of practice in order to maintain a high quality service and develop services as required.To work as part of the Head2Head MDT in delivering Mental Health assessment and intervention to young people open on the Youth Justice pathway. The team also work with young people who have co-existing substance use needs, Harmful sexual behaviour and First onset psychosis and At Risk Mental State.


Main duties of the job

To manage and develop specialist assessments, treatment plans, delivery and evaluation of intervention for a complex caseload of service users using a client centred approach.To plan, organise and monitor complex programmes and therapy plans implemented by the post holder and others.To utilise core and highly specialists occupational therapy skills to meet the complex needs of the individuals.To utilise highly developed specialist knowledge, underpinned by theory, frame of reference and models of practice to develop clinical practice in this area of work.To utilise appropriate formal assessment tools to assess needs and measure outcomes.To provide expert skills and advice underpinned by evidence and values based practice supported by service development

Job responsibilities

You will work within a complimentary MDT providing care and treatment to Young people within Nottinghamshire and Nottingham City with a range of complex needs who are primarily on the Youth Justice pathway. The role will provide direct specialist assessments of needs, formulation, advice, consultation, education and signposting to young people, their families/carers and other members of the MDT. The team use an assertive outreach approach to meet the needs of the young people we work with.

A full UK driving license and vehicle for business use is required for this post; however reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first 2 months of employment.

You are encouraged to enrol for the DBS Update Service. An annual fee of £16 per year applies.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
* CPD and maintaining HCPC revalidation.
* Highly Specialist skills specific to Child and Adolescent Mental Health occupational therapy.


Skills

* OT assessment, intervention and evaluation skills relevant to the clinical area.
* Models of practice and use of formal assessment tools.
* Independent skills in managing case load.
* Effective time management.
* Able to establish and maintain effective communication.
* Record keeping and report writing.
* Ability to motivate Children and Young People.
* Evidence of specialist skills development.
* Leadership.
* Working with a diverse client group.
* Able to actively involve service users in service delivery.
* Empathetic, open, honest and non-judgmental manner.
* Teaching/presentation skills.
* Transition planning & resettlement skills.


Experience

* Significant post qualification experience including in field of CAMHS Using a range of highly specialist assessment tools.
* Supervision/supporting staff.
* Facilitating a range of group and individual activities.
* Multi-disciplinary working.
* Working with diverse client groups and services users who may have difficulties engaging.
* Supervising OT students as an accredited Practice Placement Educator.


Knowledge

* Highly Specialist skills specific to Child and Adolescent Mental Health occupational therapy.
* A range of assessment tools both formal and informal.
* Current OT interventions and models of practice.
* Government policies and legislation and their effects upon practice.
* Person-centered approaches.
* Service evaluation methods, audit and research.

Physical Requirements

* Has the ability to perform the full range of duties.
* You will be expected to use a keyboard/computer daily to input data/reports/assessments.
* There is an occasional requirement to exert light to moderate physical effort for several short periods or one larger period during working hours e.g. driving, managing heavy doors etc.
* There is an occasional requirement to exert effort in the manual handling of clients and equipment.
* Working in a secure environment with access to keys.


Training

* Evidence of further training to master level or equivalent experience, i.e. Assessment of Motor and Process skills calibration/sensory integration theory /vocational rehabilitation evidence of specialist skills development.
* Training relevant to working with Children and Young people.


Contractual Requirements

* To undertake relevant mandatory training and keep up to date.
