Job overview
We are looking for a dynamic individual to join our friendly surgical team. The role is a permanent Consultant Upper GI Surgeon with an interest in complex hiatal procedures and benign upper GI surgery. The hospital is looking for a candidate with strong general surgery and upper GI experience and a passion for teaching.
We are recruiting for a 10PA position.
Job responsibilities
* Provide a first‑class clinical service.
* Lead and support all clinical staff in the specialty.
* Develop and deliver teaching for trainees.
* Manage clinical work in line with Trust procedures and policies.
* Maintain the business case and development strategy for the specialty.
* Support on‑call and waiting‑list management for upper GI surgery.

Person specification
Knowledge
* Expert clinical knowledge in elective and emergency upper GI surgery.
* Full independent responsibility for patient care.
* Training and experience in gastrointestinal endoscopy, including JAG accreditation.
* Current knowledge of NICE guidelines and evidence‑based practice.
* Evidence of research and publications.
Training expected
* Logbook evidence supporting expected surgical activity.
* Ability to deliver clinical and national priorities.
* Experience supervising doctors in training.
* Experience designing audit projects and leading surgical teams.
* Innovation and alternative healthcare models.
* Teaching experience.
Academic achievements
* Research presentations at academic forums.
* Application of research outcomes to clinical problems.
* Publications in indexed journals.
* Supervision of postgraduate research.
Qualifications
* Full GMC registration with a Licence to practice.
* CCT or CESR (CP) within 6 months of interview.
* European Community Rights.
* Higher degree or master’s equivalent in Education, Leadership or Management.
