Job Summary:
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Manufacturing Engineer to enhance our manufacturing operations from initial planning through to full-scale production. This critical role will oversee facility planning, production strategy, and operational execution, ensuring world-class manufacturing processes that deliver efficiency, quality, and scalability.
Reports To: Head of Manufacturing
Key Responsibilities:
1. Facilities Management & Production Planning
• Develop and manage facility layouts (including floorspace calculations and utility infrastructure requirements) to support current and future manufacturing requirements from prototype through to production builds
• Ensure optimal utilisation of manufacturing space and resources.
2. Manufacturing Process Design
• Define and optimise assembly sequences for new and existing products.
• Develop line layouts to support efficient, scalable, and flexible manufacturing lines.
• Establish and maintain takt times and calculate hours per product (HPP) to align with volume targets.
3. Production Readiness & Execution
• Calculate direct and define supporting indirect resource requirements and oversee recruitment plans to scale production.
• Lead the development of robust manufacturing processes, translate these into clear build instructions within the company’s manufacturing execution system (MES) and drive continuous improvement initiatives against these.
• Introduce lean manufacturing principles and methodologies to maximise productivity and minimise waste and train technicians in the basics of these methodologies.
4. Prototype Build Management
• Oversee prototype builds to validate product design, tooling, processes, and line setup.
• Collaborate with R&D and Engineering teams to ensure seamless transition from prototype to production.
• Support and / or lead concern management activities to aide rapid issue resolution, through containment and countermeasure implementation.
5. Manufacturing Bill of Materials (M-BoM) Management
• Own the maintenance, and accuracy of the M-BoM in alignment with design and procurement teams, within the company’s ERP / MRP solution.
• Ensure all components and subassemblies are correctly defined, costed, and traceable.
• Manage change control updates of the M-Bom based on engineering change through prototype and into production builds.
Key Requirements:
• Proven leadership experience in manufacturing operations, preferably within automotive, aerospace, or high-tech industries.
• Deep understanding of manufacturing planning, layout design, and lean production systems.
• Experience with takt time, hours per product, and capacity planning methodologies.
• Strong knowledge of prototype-to-production process development.
• Proficiency in interpreting and managing M-BoMs.
• Familiarity with facility planning tools, CAD layout software, and ERP / MRP systems.
• Ability to build and lead cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
• Six Sigma, Lean, or project management certification is a plus.
