On-Call Firefighters are a crucial part of the Fire Service - they provide an efficient and effective emergency service to the community of Staffordshire.
What is an On-Call Firefighter?
On-Call Firefighters provide emergency response cover from either their home or work base. To be eligible to apply, you need to live or work close to a fire station; all applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
After their initial training course, On-Call Firefighters attend weekly drill nights to ensure they maintain their skills. In addition, there are many more opportunities for training throughout the year. Besides responding to emergencies, On-Call Firefighters can also participate in community fire safety initiatives in their local area, including safe & well and school visits.

In order to become an On-Call Firefighter, you must:
Live or work within five minutes of your local fire station
This allows you to respond immediately. Your local fire station will have a map detailing the boundaries for the five-minute callout time. Please visit them to see whether you qualify.
Many On-Call Firefighters are employed full-time elsewhere and have arrangements with their employer to leave work if alerted to attend an incident. Others provide cover during nights or weekends. The On-Call service also appeals to unemployed individuals.
As an On-Call Firefighter, you will play a full and valuable role in Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service. You can expect the same respect from the community and job satisfaction as full-time Firefighters.
